Nieuwe geheimen onthuld voor Diablo 3

Blizzard Entertainment heeft nieuws vrijgegeven van Diablo 3. De game is gratis te spelen, net als zijn voorganger, maar in de nieuwe versie zal er ook met echt geld te bètalen zijn. Het zal mogelijk zijn om ingame items te kopen met contant geld. Zo kan je onder andere wapens en outfits kopen bij de veilingen. Hieronder een quote.

"Real Money" Auction House. You can sell and buy Items for Real Money. You have to pay fee to Blizzard for it. You can also use an Ingame-Gold Auction House.

Ook is het verplicht om met Diablo 3 online te zijn in alle game modus die je speelt. 'Executive Vice President of Game Design' Rob Pardo heeft gezegd dat door alle nieuwe verbeteringen in de game het noodzakelijk is om altijd online te zijn. Hij noemde onder andere de onderstaande feutures op.

• A persistent friends list.
• Cross-game chat via the RealID system.
• Persistent characters that are stored server-side (no more having to play online once every 90 days, nor item duplication cheats).
• Persistent party system.
• Player-versus-player and public game matchmaking.
• Dynamic drop-in/out for co-op
• Larger item stash that gets shared among all of your characters (at the moment, up to 10)
• The auction house
• The Achievement system and detailed stat-tracking, both of which feed into the final point:
• The Banner system, a visual way to display your prowess in the game. Banners start out like emblems, where you can choose from an array of symbols, patterns, and overall shape/design. Then, you can tweak its appearance through Achievements and other accomplishments. Examples Pardo cites include whether the character is in Hardcore mode, how many Achievements have been earned, how many PVP victories, and so forth. Additionally, the Banners also have gameplay features; in-game, rather than use Town Portal, you can click on a player's Banner to instantly teleport over to said player.

Er zijn volgens Rob Pardo dus genoeg features om online te gaan verplichten. Daarnaast zegt Pardo wel dat mensen soms offline willen of moeten spelen. Toch wegen veiligheid en de bovenstaande features op tegen andere zorgen.

De releasedatum van Diablo 3 is nog niet bekend. Wel weten we dat de game zowel op de pc als Mac te verkrijgen zal zijn. De game zal in zoveel mogelijk regio's tegelijk worden uitgebracht.
