Xbox 360 krijgt binnenkort nieuw discformaat

De huidige opslagcapaciteit van de Xbox 360-disc is nu maximaal 8,7GB en dat is erg weinig als je dat vergelijkt met de Blu-Ray's op PlayStation 3, dat 50GB opslagruimte heeft.

Zojuist heeft Larry Hryb, beter bekend als Major Nelson, Director of Programmering van Xbox Live, laten weten dat Microsoft op dit moment een nieuw discformaat test.

We are conducting an open call for US based participants for a public preview to help us prepare for an updated Xbox 360 disc format. As part of the preview program, you will receive a copy of Halo: Reach along with other possible rewards.
This is an important update as we continually strive to improve our products and we could not do so without the help of our great Xbox community.

Het discformaat is opgeschroefd naar 9,7GB en zal ook beter beschermd zijn tegen piraterij. Wanneer deze nieuwe disc's moeten verschijnen is nog niet bekend.
