Zojuist heeft de organisatie middels haar website laten weten dat de deuren van de Leipzig Games Convention voorgoed heeft gesloten.
Op de website van de organisatie staat het volgende bericht:
The day has come for GCO to say goodbye.
Despite your fantastic support over the last two years, we have been unable to put GAMES CONVENTION ONLINE on a firm financial footing. The ideas and topics we created together were innovative and we certainly had the right thoughts as far as the development prospects of online games were concerned.
Unfortunately, in the end, the idea on its own didn't suffice to organize an economically successful trade fair and congress. The Leipziger Messe will naturally continue to provide a platform for young innovative branches of industry, but this needs to be supported and developed by the majority of the industry concerned. Despite all joint efforts, we were still unable to achieve this.
We would like to thank everyone for their exceptional collaboration, loyalty and confidence.
In this spirit, we would like to wish you all good luck with your next tasks and say

In het bovenstaande bericht laten ze weten dat ze ermee stoppen en willen ze iedereen, die de afgelopen twee jaar heeft geholpen, bedanken. Het is de organisatie niet gelukt om een succesvolle beurs neer te zetten en congres op te zetten, dat ook nog economisch verantwoord is.
Leipzig Games Convention organiseerde al sinds 2002 de Games Convention. Doordat de beurs niet kon groeien, omdat het te kort had aan slaapplekken en hotels voor bezoekers en journalisten, heeft de Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungs- software besloten om de beurs te verplaatsen naar Keulen. Daar waar nu sinds 2008 de gamescom plaatsvindt.
De Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware is de bond dat achter Leipzig Games Convention zit.
